VENTRY® Fan News

First, if you are going to FDIC this year, please stop by and visit with us in booth 643!

New and improved rubber leg endsFree Rubber Leg End Upgrade

We are upgrading some VENTRY Fans manufactured in 2012 with new sets of rubber leg ends, at no cost to our customers. This is worth about $40 per fan.

Why? Our Customers with fans began to report cracking of the fan feet, usually after shipment. We learned through research that the rubber in our products’ leg ends (jumbo crutch tips) had been removed! (The rubber leg ends were suddenly not rubber but clay!) Oddly enough, this is due to latex restrictions in Canada hospitals. Anyway, the higher clay content resulted in inferior performance, so we immediately looked for a solution.

Solution: We found an even better rubber leg end / jumbo crutch tip than our originals and began installing them on VENTRY Fans in July 2012. We are working to contact all customers with fans manufactured between January 1 and July 19, 2012. If your fan qualifies and you have not heard from us yet, register today. The new feet have more rubber as well as a few other aboveand beyond improvements, including an internal metal plate.

No matter its age, if the rubber leg ends (or feet) on your VENTRY Fan or LENTRY Light System have cracked, please contact us. You may be eligible for the free upgrade as well!

Stick it! Reflective Tape and Dots now included on all VENTRY Fans and LENTRY Lights

All VENTRY Fans and LENTRY Light Systems now have neat reflective red tape (for visibility) and all Leg knobs have super eye-catching reflective dots.

On VENTRY Fans, the neon dots raise awareness of the importance of extending the legs on VENTRY Fans when in use.

To anyone who owns Ventry Solutions products manufactured prior to May 2011, we will mail you free sets of stickers. Just register your fans and lights, and we will send the stickers for free. See the Product Registration page for the simple registration forms.

Small Pneumatic Wheels now available on most VENTRY Fans

May 2011: The rear Folding Tow Handle which used to come with Wheels on VENTRY Fans has been discontinued. The tow handle has been replaced by a vertical handle, which raises and lowers from the center of the fan. Only the original electric fan, model 20E1.5, still includes Solid Rubber Wheels and rear Folding Tow Handle.

Additionally, a new wheel option has been added: Small Pneumatic Wheels are now available on almost all fans, including 20-inchers! Solid Rubber Wheels and Small Pneumatic Wheels will come with a vertical handle and the Stair Skids. Large Pneumatic wheels will now include the new vertical handle too, but Stair Skids are not necessary.

Please see the Fan Options page of this site for photos and details.

New 20-inch Economy Model VENTRY Fan

Introducing the 20GC160, the latest VENTRY Fan model. This is now the lightest and least expensive VENTRY Fan! Click here for specs. This is a great, low priced fan.

New 20-inch Gas Model VENTRY Fan now available: 20GX160

The 20GX160 is a brand new VENTRY Fan model with the same 20-inch propeller length and compact body size, but higher horsepower (hp) than previously offered in our best selling 20-inch models.

The new 20GX160 is the only 20-inch fan model available with the Safety Light option because Honda no longer offers the required coil in GX120 motors, only GX160s and GX200s. See the Fan Prices page for a chart showing all models and options available for each.

As of December 6, this model pushes 17,300 cfm, thanks to a new propeller James has engineered specifically for the GX160 motor. Specifications sheets and the website will be updated in the coming days.

Ultimate Door Stops

One free Ultimate Door Stop is now included with every VENTRY Fan shipped from our factory. More info here.

Horsepower ratings have changed

Horsepower ratings for the Honda motors utilized in VENTRY Fans (and other brands) have changed, due to litigation against small engine manufacturers (Honda, Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh and others). Note: The motors and models have not changed, just the HP ratings that are supposed to be shown. Our communications have been updated to reflect the new ratings and are therefore lower than you may see elsewhere, despite being the same motors. Please see our Motors Specs page to see/compare motors’ original and new HP ratings.

New body style on 20-inch VENTRY Fans

Effective mid-June 2010, there are now two different body styles on 20-inch VENTRY Fans. 20-inch gas VENTRY Fan models now have a new body style (20GX120 and 20GX160) but pictures online and in some literature may still show the original body style. The new body style has a roll bar, just like larger 24-inch VENTRY Fans have had all along. Please click here to open a PDF file or click here for a JPG detailing the two fan body styles.

Stair Skids introduced on 20-inch VENTRY Fans

In July 2010, a second Wheel configuration was introduced. In addition to the existing Wheels & Folding Tow Handle, we added Wheels/Skids -- wheels with a vertical handle and stair skids.

VENTRY Fans with “Wheels & Folding Tow Handle” included a handle that folded up/down in the rear of the fan. Fans with the new “Wheels/Skids” option include solid rubber wheels, a vertical handle that rises from the center of the fan, and stair skids for going up/down curbs and stairs.

Safety Light option change on VENTRY Fan models

The popular Point of Entry Safety Light is optional on four VENTRY fan models, including a new 20-inch fan (20GX160). It has been discontinued, however, on fans with GX120 motors (20GX120 and 24GX120) because the necessary coil is no longer offered by Honda on the GX120 motor.

For more information, please see the Fan Options page of this site, or the Fan Prices page to see which models have which options.

Positive Pressure Attack and Ventilation Press Release by Ventry Solutions

Published March 2010 in Asia Pacific Fire Magazine published by MDM Publishing

Ventry Solutions, Inc. is the manufacturer of VENTRY® Fans for Positive Pressure Attack and Ventilation (PPA and PPV). Our mission is to build the best equipment keeping safety, quality, and value in mind with a simple design, for minimal maintenance and intuitive, cost-effective operation.

Positive Pressure Ventilation is a tool every fire department should have in their toolbox. Cancer rates among today’s firefighters are increasing along with the higher fuel loads and greater smoke toxicity present in today’s modern fire grounds. With proper training, PPV can lower firefighters’ exposure by removing the poisonous smoke quickly.

Positive Pressure Attack (also know as Tactical Positive Pressure Ventilation) is an aggressive coordinated fire attack using positive pressure ventilation. This coordinated attack—using a high air volume fan—can transform the fire from a potentially explosive fuel-controlled fire into a stable ventilation-controlled fire within seconds. This rapidly delivers fresh air to victims, reduces temperatures, purgesflammable gases, and increases the stability and survivability of the interior environment. With improved visibility, crews can proceed with their attack, safely eliminating the need to crawl blindly through a hot and potentially explosive environment. Interior conditions improve quickly allowing for a fast fire attack, efficient searches, reduced knockdown times and lower environmental temperatures. This minimizes firefighter exposure to environmental toxins and improves victims’ survival rates while decreasing property damage.

The first few minutes of a fire attack are crucial. PPA requires knowledge, training, and a fan capable of pushing a large volume of air. The engineered features of VENTRY Fans—including their aircraft style propellers, curved legs and small size--make them ideal for aggressive, coordinated attacks.

The trademarked three-legged design and smoke-busting safety propellers of VENTRY Fans provide unparalleled versatility and volume. These features allow VENTRY Fans to be placed far back and off to the side where firefighters need them, not in the middle of the path where they are trying to advance hose lines and execute an attack. The propeller materials and shape make them safe and efficient. They quickly move a very large volume of air and produce a narrow air cone for precise aiming from a greater distance. The legs allow the fan to be positioned on uneven ground, straddle debris, set up on stairs, and aim the airstream over obstacles while requiring only one firefighter to operate. Legs provide aiming and unlimited placement of VENTRY Fans, for better access and communication with the crews. With unique, all-terrain versatility, VENTRY Fans stand UP to the challenges of today’s fires.

VENTRY Electric PPV FanClick to enlarge

Ventry Solutions, Inc. now offers an Electric VENTRY Fan for positive pressure attack and ventilation (PPA and PPV). The VENTRY Electric Fan combines three phase technology with the all-terrain three-legged design and aircraft-style Safety Propellers exclusive to the VENTRY brand.

Electric motors offer these advantages over gas/combustion engines:

  • lower maintenance (essentially none)
  • no emissions
  • quieter than combustion engines
  • smoother so less prone to walking
  • can be tipped in any direction (no fluids inside to cause problems)

The VENTRY Electric Fan offers all the benefits of electrics shown above, plus legs for infinite angle adjustment, plus air volumes previously associated only with gas-powered fans! For fire/rescue, the Electric VENTRY Fan is ideal for positive pressure attack and ventilation, not just post-knock-down mop-up.

This 1.5 hp model accepts single phase input and outputs three phase to the motor. It weighs just 69 pounds, fits in a 2- x 2- x 2-foot compartment (with depth to spare), and offers 12,080 CFM. It will not exceed 20 amps, even at start-up (no initial spike). It is also variable speed, so the inverter may be set at any point between 0 and 3600 RPM.
