Solid rubber wheels, which are available with either of the two wheels options (Wheels & Folding Tow Handle or Wheels/Skids), will be polyurethane Razor® Scooter wheels with ABEC-5 bearings. These allow for extremely smooth-rolling and are extra rugged to really take firefighter abuse. If you already own a VENTRY with the original black solid wheels (click here for a photo), you can upgrade to these new wheels very easily and inexpensively.

Pneumatic wheels are air-filled and allow for easy transport over very rough terrain, rocks and gravel. Due to the large size of pneumatic wheels, they are only available on select models. Check dimensions on Fan Specs carefully before choosing pneumatic wheels. See also the Fan FAQ for more important, in-depth info on pneumatic wheels.

Please see the Fan Price Chart for the availability of Wheels on all the fan models.

Pneumatic wheels can be better than solid wheels on rough terrain; however, there are some trade-offs. Solid rubber wheels (transparent polyurethane wheels with ABEC-5 bearings) will never go flat, take less space, and cost less.

Our 20-inch fans are small enough to be easily carried by one person. However, even on smaller fans, Wheels are helpful in situations where tools must also be carried while moving the fan AND when it is clean-up time and the adrenaline is gone!

Regardless of whether you want pneumatic or solid wheels, the important thing with PPV fans is to have any kind of wheels, so that you can transport the fan with one hand. Either wheel type will suffice for this purpose so you do not have to use two hands or two people to lift and carry.

NOTE: Pneumatic wheels are BIG. Once you order a fan with pneumatics, they can not be switched out with solid rubber because the frames are different. You must carefully measure your compartment and make sure the fan fits before ordering pneumatics. See specifications page for measurements

All VENTRY Fans include dual side handles which allow for one or two people to carry it when certain terrain makes wheels impractical. (Click here to see a photo of VENTRY Fans being towed with the folding tow handle and carried.)

The photo at left of Jerry Moat of First Response of Tennessee at FDIC a few years ago brings to mind a message from Ian Smith of Morrison Fire in Canada. Ian emailed us about having been at a tradeshow where he demonstrated what he calls the “one-firefighter-PPV-fan-carry-while-also-carrying-a-cup-of-coffee” skill.

He told us, “The folding tow handle position [of VENTRY Fans] makes this the only fan that can be used to perform this important firefighting skill! Its an excellent way to get nourishment to the Fire Chief while still performing a more mundane fireground task.

Significant changes have been made to the Wheels option on 20-inch gas VENTRY Fans. Please call or CLICK HERE for details!
